Surgery Avoided
Good news for us - Montana will not have to have surgery. A few days before vacation while Phil was playing with Montana he twisted his leg. He limped for about a day and it seemed to be better. Then this last week it seems to have agitated itself again. Phil and the kids took him to the vet and thank goodness it's something that will heal on it's own. He has a mostly torn ACL. The vet gave us some anti inflammatory meds, drained some fluid off the area, and said no running and ball chasing but normal play is fine! Whew! We were worried it might be more.

You're very fortunate to have a relatively honest vet. Most are encouraged by their associations to always recommend surgery for cruciate injuries, (among other unnecessary tests, meds, etc. Go to our blog, click on the terrierman's blog link, then search there for "cruciate", or "veterinarians", or "heartworm scam". Patrick's required reading every day ;0)
We actually thought it was going to require surgery based on internet research. He has one set of meds that he's on. All in all $142 beats $1200 or more. I'll be reading that blog for sure.
