Mammoth Cave National Park Adventures Day 2
We decided that we were going to go back to Mammoth Cave National Park and hike some of the above ground trails. We decided to stop at Sand Cave first and walk to the cave. This cave was found by Floyd Collins who in an attempt to find additional commercial caves (his family owned Crystal Cave)he was trapped in the cave and unable to get out. He died in the cave and his body was not retrieved until about 2 months later. We learned the story from a very nice Park Ranger who then lead us and another couple to his family home and the entrance to Crystal Cave (you can't go in that cave in the summer because of snakes). After that we went to his final burial place. We happened to be at the right place at the right time. These places were only places you could access with a ranger since they had to unlock the area.
