Game Two of The Tournament for the Twins

After two cancelled games due to weather (in the south it's cold if it's 50 and windy) the Twins finally got to play their second game of the double elimination tournament. Secretly we're ready for the season to end but these boys and one girl aren't ready to throw in the towel just yet. Tonight they played the Tigers. Finally a team with same or similar skill sets to our team.

Logan was put back in the circle position and with the exception of one off throw he was really on fire with his throws to the first base man. Logan had all three hits off the pitch. All the kids did some great hitting and excellent fielding! They ended up winning 16 to 13. So..... that means another game on Saturday at 2 p.m. :) (At least we'll get to sleep in.) Go Twins!!!

Prayers for Phil's Mom

Please pray for Phil's mom because tomorrow she's having surgery to have some kidney stones removed.

Photos From The Apple Orchard

These were some of the photos that a mom shared with those of us that couldn't come on the apple orchard field trip. I just thought I'd share.

Cubs End of the Year Team Party

On Sunday was the Rookie Cubs end of the year team party. This has been one of our favorite teams that Phil has coached. We had the most parent involvement that we've had in the 5 seasons that Phil has coached. We had a full coaching staff (4 including Phil) plus several others that helped coach 1st and 3rd base. This season we even had a sponsor that paid for everything (lettering, trophies, food for the party). The kids had a fun time at the park and they all loved their trophies. One little boy, asked Phil if everyone was going to get a trophy it was so cute.

We really did see the kids improve (this was the youngest team we've ever had) and can't wait to see them play again in the Spring. Great Season Cubs!

Saturday Founder's Day Party

Saturday was the Girl Scout Service Unit's Founder's Day Party. Kayla was excited to wear her freshly made costume (thanks to Grandma's wonderful sewing talents and sewing machine. :) ) of half asleep half awake. The girls had a good time. It was a smaller turn out this year but the troop (not ours) that put it on only had 5 girls so they should be applauded. We had some other creative costumes in our troop - a flip flop, a pirate, speed bumps, and a Frankenstein's bride.

I'll post some photos as soon as I find my sd card reader.

Phil's Masters Program

Saturday was the last step in Phil's completion (aside from the grade)of his Master's program. Phil took his comp test on Saturday. This is a list of six questions (they give you 12 possible questions in advance so you can study) that you have to answer. Eighteen pages and four hours later Phil walked out of the testing room. Now it will be three weeks before we find out the results, which I'm sure will be good. :)

Friday's Fall Festival

Friday night was the fall festival at Alex's school. The boys were excited (so was Kayla to wear her costume) to go to the festival. They had their usual games, cotton candy, and decorated cookies. All three of the kids won goldfish - sadly two of them have already passed on to fishie heaven.

Alex Shares A Poptart

This might not seem like earth shattering news but it is if you live in our house. Alex's favorite foods are poptarts, chocolate milk, chicken nuggets and cheese pizza. We've been trying to ween him off the poptarts because of the sugar. We had one poptart left in the house and both he and Logan wanted one. Alex (on his own) said that he and Logan could share it!

Perhaps all our good manners are rubbing off on to Alex. Maybe we'll have to get just one box of poptarts.

Friday Foto Fiesta

Since I didn't update the blog on the Sumo Wrestling Photo I'm using them as my favorite fun foto. Sorry that they're blurry we didn't have our camera and had to use our camera phones. It still makes me laugh when I watch it and Kayla had so much fun!

Tournament Game One - Twins vs. Braves

Tonight was the first game in the double elimination tournament for the Twins. We had a good game but some bad calls by the umpires. Although I'm a little thankful because if we had won we'd be playing the Red Sox on Saturday and that team is really stacked and would slaughter our team.

Logan was two for two off the pitch tonight. He also made an awesome play and tagged a runner out at third which kept the other team from scoring 5 in that inning. We had some other great plays but in the end the team lost. Our next game is Monday night at 7:30 - hopefully we'll beat that team. Way to go Twins!

Favorite Weekend Moments

This was the first weekend in a while that we weren't jam packed with activites and could just hang out together. On Saturday we went (after Alex's game and a birthday party) to the 2nd Annual Gwinnett County Reading Festival. The kids all got a free book, we saw Spiderman (he signed the boys books), listened to a great story teller and watched Kayla sumo wrestle. That was the most hilarious (I'll post photos soon) thing to watch. It was like wrestling in slow motion. Phil and I laughed and laughed while we watched that.

Today I took the boys (as Phil is studying for his Masters comps)to get Alex's haircut, to the library and to pick up crickets. While we were out (amidst the I get to get in the van and buckle first arguments) we decided to pick up some chocolate chips to have chocolate chip cookies. After dinner and after Phil and Kayla left for her RE class the boys and I made cookies. It was a lot of fun and they didn't fight. Each boy got to put equal amounts of ingredients in and equal turns using the blender. The result - smiles (great memories) and some DELICIOUS chocolate chip cookies.

Last Game Cubs vs. Astros

What a great last game to end the season for the Cubs today. It was probably one of the best games they've had all season. Each member of the team was baseball ready, there was no crying about who hit when (a common occurrence when they are 3 and 4), and they had a good time. Alex hit one off the pitch. We had one player (Ben) when he came up to bat point his bat to where the home run was going to be hit. We laughed and laughed - I wish I had videotaped the game. All the kids slid into home when they ran in. Jake was doing great a first and was good at stopping the ball. All in all a great game. The game ball was given to Assistant Coach David. It was a most deserving game ball. We're going to miss the families of this team. What a great season! Go Cubs! GRRRRRRRRR!!!

Foto Friday Fiesta

I thought I'd share this photo in the Foto Friday Fiesta. This past weekend I had to work (one of three weekends out of the year I do that) and this is a photo from then. A member was generous and brought me 6 lbs of M&Ms. So I decided to put them in my M&M dispenser and share them with all those in attendance for the meetings over the weekend. What resulted was a slight alteration to my M&M truck.

I think I've decided that I'm "fueled" by "bio-fuel" especially if that fuel is chocolate.

Happy Friday. For more Foto Friday Fiesta Fotos visit Candid Carries.

Twins vs. Phillies

Tonight was the final game of the regular season for the Twins. I'd like to say that we won but we didn't. However, I was in the dugout tonight and the game always goes much faster when you're the dugout mom. Logan played third base and was able to make at least one play. His first at bat he got out but his next at bat he got on base. Next up..... double elimination playoffs starting October 22nd.

Alex's Pre-K Photos

We just got Alex's Pre-K photos today. It's hard not to buy them when he's so darn cute. But next year I vow to purchase all photos at Walmart - much cheaper that way. But since I bought Logan's last year can't leave Alex out this year. Our favorite is the one with the blue background - it really captures Alex's personality.

Logan's Kindergarten Photo

Thought I'd share a scan of Logan's Kindergarten picture. He sure has grown. Hard to believe he's 6 and in Kindergarten. He's really a miniature version of Phil.

A Plane Photo of Me

Normally you'll never see photos of me on the blog or rarely if ever see photos of myself. Why? Besides not liking having my picture taking I'm usually the one behind the camera taking the photos. I had to work last weekend and while it keeps me busy I still get to have a little fun. I took one of the members (whom I also consider a friend) over to PDK Airport. My friend owns his own plane so I got to go out on the Tarmac and see it. It was cool even though I didn't get to take a ride (I had to get back to work and he needed to head home). I remember going to the airport to watch planes with my Grandpa but it's surreal to go on the tarmac to see someone's plane.

Here's proof of the plane and me being at the airport. It was a cool six seater plane.

A Win for the Twins!

Saturday the Twins finally won a second game! They were so excited. They actually won 14 to 3. The piching was still off and Logan had several great plays from 3rd base. Wednesday night is their last regular season game and then it's time for the double elimination round playoffs. Good Luck Twins!

Cubs vs. Braves

Saturday resulted in a four inning game for the Cubs vs. Braves instead of 3 innings. The Braves had only 4 players at the game and not wanting anyone to miss out on the fun the teams decided to go 4 innings. All the kids had a great time.

Friday's Game Cubs vs. Marlins

Friday night Logan's team played against the Marlins. This is his best friend's Blake's team. Of course Logan is playing third base and for about 1/2 the game he's trying to talk to Blake in the dugout when he's not twirling around trying to catch is own spit in the air. The pitching wasn't good Friday night so very few of the kids that are designated pitch hit only hitters were able to hit. Logan included. Needless to say they didn't win but they sure had a good time.

Enjoy the Rain

We all should learn to enjoy the rain just like children. Yesterday we had lots of much needed rain but as I got to the daycare to pick up Alex I dreaded getting out of the car because it was raining quite hard and I didn't want to get soaked.

I go inside to get Alex and we run to the car through more pouring rain. Alex gets in the car and then I get in the car. Alex exclaims, "That was Awesome!"

He's right running through the rain is awesome!

Twins vs. Reds

Saturday Logan's team (the Twins) played against the Reds. It was a match against best friends. Logan's friend Blake plays for the Reds. Unfortunately Logan's team didn't win. Logan now is a pitch only hitter. His first at bat he struck out (they get 5 pitches) but his next two at bats he hit it. The first was a single and the second was a double. He had a little bit of time playing circle and was moved to second base and then to the outfield. But they were really losing so they also moved the less experienced players into the infield.

Hopefully Friday night they'll win. Only 3 more games until the end of the season and playoffs begin.

Cubs at the Pirates

On Saturday the Rookie Cubs played the Rookie Pirates. Alex played great! He hit it off the pitch straight down the first base line. And made it to first base. The kids were on fire for getting the balls during the 3rd inning! I'd say they won. But hey I'm biased. :)
